Organic Farming Ideas

MUSKMELON FARMING:

  • Muskmelon grows well in deep fertile and well-drained soil
  • Sandy loam rich in organic matter with good drainage and pH range of 6.5 – 7.5
  • Apply 20 Tonnes of Compost at the time of soil preparation
  • The optimum temperature for germination of the seed is 27 degree Celsius – 30 degree Celsius
  • February is the best sowing time
  • 400g seeds are sufficient for one acre
  • Irrigation should be done immediately after sowing the seeds
  • Once fruit begins to grow, prune end buds off vines.
  • Your plants may produce fewer melons, but they will be larger and of better quality.
  • During summer, irrigation the crop every week.
  • When rinds begin to change from green to tan or yellow, the melon is probably ripe, but be careful not to pick too early.
  • Look for a crack in the stem where it attaches to the fruit.
  • Harvest melon when vines are dry, and be careful not to damage them
