How to plant Arecanut Saplings in the farm

  1. Select healthy saplings
    • Age: 6–12 months old
    • Look for strong roots and 4–5 green leaves.
  2. Prepare the pit
    • Dig a pit about 60 × 60 × 60 cm.
    • Mix topsoil with compost or farmyard manure.
  3. Remove the cover
    • If saplings are in polybags, carefully cut and remove the cover.
    • Avoid damaging roots while removing.
  4. Planting
    • Place the sapling upright in the pit.
    • Fill soil around roots firmly but gently.
    • Ensure the collar region (where stem meets root) is level with the ground.
  5. Watering
    • Water immediately after planting.
    • Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
  6. Shade protection
    • Young arecanut palms are sensitive to sun scorch.
    • Provide temporary shade using banana plants, coconut fronds, or fast‑growing trees.
