- Select healthy saplings
- Age: 6–12 months old
- Look for strong roots and 4–5 green leaves.
- Prepare the pit
- Dig a pit about 60 × 60 × 60 cm.
- Mix topsoil with compost or farmyard manure.
- Remove the cover
- Planting
- Place the sapling upright in the pit.
- Fill soil around roots firmly but gently.
- Ensure the collar region (where stem meets root) is level with the ground.
- Watering
- Water immediately after planting.
- Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
- Shade protection
- Young arecanut palms are sensitive to sun scorch.
- Provide temporary shade using banana plants, coconut fronds, or fast‑growing trees.
